Redding Die Bushings are used in Type S Full Length Sizing Dies and Type S Neck Sizing Dies to set neck tension. They are available in 0.001″ increments from 0.185″ to 0.368″ to accommodate a particular brand and batch of brass cartridge casings. Case neck thickness will differ from manufacturer to another. Additionally there could be variation from batch to batch or year to year. It is important to use the correct size in order not to work the case neck excessively and cause a case to fail, but at the same time grip the bullet tightly enough to provide proper consistent powder combustion.
These bushings are coated with titanium nitride, which should extend their life in high volume situations. Storage box available separately.
The easiest way to determine the bushing size is to measure the outside diameter of some dummy cartridges loaded with the bullet you are planning to use. The general recommendation for a starting point is to take this number and subtract 0.001″ or 0.002″ from it, which will yield your starting bushing size.
Another method of bushing selection measure the actual neck thickness of a few cases using a ball end micrometer or Redding Case Neck Gauge 26400 and doubling it and adding that figure to the bullet diameter. Subtract 0.001″ or 0.002″ from this figure that will also yield a good starting point.
