L E Wilson Case Gauge Micrometer

The Wilson Case Gauge Micrometer works in conjunction with the Wilson Case Gauge to quickly measure headspace from a fired or sized case with a proper degree of accuracy.

The Wilson Case Gauge Micrometer is essentially a depth micrometer with a housing precisely machined to fit over a Wilson Case Gauge.  The ‘Zero’ point can be set arbitrarily (.100 instead of .000 for example) allowing the gauge to take positive or negative measurements as required.   The gauge comes with a precision ground block to act as a reference surface when setting ‘Zero’.

This micrometer is not calibre specific, allowing it to be used in all Wilson Case Gauges.

During a recent demonstration of this device at the range, it became very clear why it is so useful.  A group of shooters picked a fired case randomly from a box of 6.5 Creedmoor at the point.  They then inserted the case in a Wilson Case Gauge and measured the headspace with the Micrometer.  They passed the tool and case around, with each shooter taking their own measurements.  They all unanimously concluded that the rifle that the case had 0.002 negative headspace.  Each individual came up with exactly the same reading, proving how easy the micrometer is used to get consistent, accurate measurements.  Yes, we could have used a set of digital calipers, but we probably would have all come up with different measurements.
