Peterson 308 Winchester SRP brass is designed to maximize case life through many reloading cycles. These large rifle primer cases are made in the USA to very close tolerances using high grade raw material. These small rifle primer cases are also known as Palma Match Brass.
This version uses Small Rifle Primers, which often produce lower SD’s. Lower Standard Deviation in ammunition velocity contributes to smaller groups, especially at longer ranges. Peterson recommend carefully working up a load when switching to their brass from another brand with a lighter average weight. The initial cost of this brass is high, but because of its durability the actual cost per round is lower than with other brass.
To make sure you don’t have any problems talk to your gunsmith and understand what your rifle is set up for before using SRP brass. Doing that will make sure your reloading and shooting experience is much more enjoyable. SRPs may not be your best choice in cold weather and the Small Rifle Primer generates less heat than a Large Rifle Primer.
These cases will require a light neck size to remove any deformation created during shipping.
Case weight for the current batch in stock ranges between 173.0 and 175.0 grains.
Peterson 308 Winchester Testing is an interesting article on testing done by a Peterson employee where he tries to determine how long these cases will last.
